Our Mission,
Values, & Beliefs
Our Mission
We’re a church that’s inviting ordinary people to live everyday life like Jesus for the good of the neighborhood.
Our Values
Biblical Theology
Because the Bible tells the true story that makes sense of our stories.
(2 Tim. 3:14-16)
Cultural Relevance
Because we want to answer the questions our friends are actually asking. (1 Cor. 9:19-23)
Spiritual Worship
Because we want to make room for the Holy Spirit to show up.
(1 Cor. 14:23-25)
Prodigal Generosity
Because God has been over-the-top in his generosity toward us.
(Lk. 15:11-32)
Incarnational Mission
Because we want to meet people right where they are. (Jn. 1:14)
Real Friendships
Because the church should be the easiest place to make new friends. (Acts 2:42-47)
Intentional Families
Because kids ministry done right is
so much more than babysitting.
(Deut. 6:4-9)
Radical Service
Because we’re all members of the crew and there are no passengers. (Eph. 4:11-13)
Conversational Prayer
Because prayer is meant to be a dialogue, not a monologue.
(1 Thess. 5:17)
Practical Focus
Because we want to be a church that does less but better. (Lk. 16:10)
Our Beliefs
Bellevue Christian Church is committed to the principles of our Christian Church heritage, as expressed by phrases like these:
In essentials, unity; in opinions, liberty; and in all things, love.
We are not the only Christians, but we are Christians only.
We follow no creed but Christ.
The following key biblical principles are not intended as a test of fellowship but are simply meant to affirm our belief in key issues of biblical doctrine. We offer this document as a theological framework to help unify our faith community under the authority of Christ and His Word and to advance our efforts to communicate the gospel to the world.
-
God is One. God is the Creator and Ruler of the universe. He has eternally existed in three persons: the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. These three are co-equal and are one God.
-
Jesus Christ is the Son of God. He is co-equal with the Father. Jesus was begotten of the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, lived a sinless human life. He was fully God and fully Man. He offered Himself as the perfect sacrifice for the sins of all people by dying on a cross. He arose from the dead body after three days to demonstrate His power over sin and death. He ascended to Heaven’s glory where He lives as our High Priest and Advocate. He will return personally again someday to earth to reign as King of Kings, and Lord of Lords.
-
The Holy Spirit is co-equal with the Father and the Son of God. He is present in the world to make men aware of their need for Jesus Christ. He lives, as the Comforter, in every Christian from the moment of salvation. He provides the Christian with power for living, understanding of spiritual truth, and guidance in doing what is right. He gives every believer a spiritual gift when they are saved. As Christians, we seek to live under His control daily.
-
The Bible is God’s Word to us. It was written by human authors, under the supernatural guidance of the Holy Spirit. It is the supreme source of truth for Christian beliefs and living.
-
People are made in the spiritual image of God, to be like Him in character. People are the supreme object of God’s creation. Although every person has tremendous potential for good, all of us are marred from birth by an attitude of disobedience toward God called “sin”. This attitude separates people from God eternally and causes many problems in life.
-
We believe that Christ’s sacrificial and substitutionary death on the cross satisfied God’s wrath against the sin of those who accept Christ. Only by trusting in Jesus Christ as God’s offer of forgiveness can anyone be saved from sin’s penalty. Salvation is God’s free gift to us but we must accept it. We can never make up for our sin by self-improvement or good works. When we repent of our self-ruled life and turn to Jesus in faith, we are born again of the Holy Spirit. Eternal life begins the moment one receives Jesus Christ into his life by faith.
-
We believe that commitment to Christ in faith is to be accompanied by publicly identifying with Christ through baptism by immersion.
